The story :

As he was searching for the « Heart of the Ocean », a fabulous diamond disappeared with the famous liner Titanic, Brock Lovett (Bill PAXTON) discovers in a safe situated in a cabin of the wreck the drawing of a woman wearing it as a necklace.

An old woman (Gloria STUART) who is watching the TV news about the expedition, recognizes with emotion her portrait drawn 85 years ago. She decides straight away to go on the spot in order to tell her fabulous story…

Information, mistakes :
1°) When the Titanic weighs anchor in Southampton and as he was filmed from the prow to the stern, we notice in the background the Southwestern hotel written in white and red, (it is really at its right place at that time). But, as we see a man taking the mooring from a bollard and as the camera films the boat from the stern to the prow, we still can see this hotel although we should have a view of the estuary of the port.

2°) As we see Jack and Fabrizio watching at the dolphins from the top of the stern, the deck situated under the anchor is black. But when Jack and Rose hugged at the same place in another sight, it became white.

3°) On this same sight with Jack and Fabrizio, who walks between the funnels and ends on the stern, the model is filmed on the opposite side. Indeed, the hatch we can see to starboard behind the breakwater of the forecastle should normally be on the port side.

4°) All capstans of the quarter-deck of the Titanic were made of foam rubber (for security reasons…) but we can see very clearly one of them twisting as the stuntman jumps above the rear gate for the coming alongside bounces upon it. For those who want to verify, please see the woman who pinches one of them with her hand! on page 81 of the review called Première N°252, or on page 134 of “Titanic, the book about the film”.
