The story :

American strategists devised a system of defence whose working is based on the use of byzanium, a rare steel, which can only be found in arctic areas.

It was noticed that the stocks of byzanium might have been loaded some years before on board of the Titanic.

The competent authorities decided then to refloat the giant, an expansive and uncertain operation, while the soviet secret service had heard about this project, and is waiting in the dark…

Criticism :
Taken from an excellent spy novel, the adaptation is very good and especially the scene of the refloating. Unfortunately, we know today that the wreck is broken in two pieces, which takes the film a lot of its credibility.

Information :
The model of the film was built on a scale of 1/20ème (13.45 m), it weighed 10 tons, and cost 5 millions dollars. The famous painter Ken MARSCHALL supervised its creation and was probably assisted by Johnny WALKER for both airshafts situated on each side of the mainmast!
For an aesthetic reason, the Direction decided that the second funnel would disappear (Didn’t they care about the historical truth?!!!)

The scene of the refloating was made into a circular basin (on the right side of the picture) in the Mediterranean Film Studios in Kalkara in Malta, this explains the Mediterranean blue colour of the water instead of the dark blue colour of the Northern Atlantic Ocean.
